VETS DEN Presenter: Dr. Alex Pop, Private Practice

Dr. Alexandru Pop is the proud owner of Appalachian Veterinary Services, having taken over the practice in July 2020, following the retirement of Dr. Kim Bridges and Dr. Kent Adams, who built the practice into a respected and beloved institution over the last thirty years.

Originally from Coastal North Carolina, Dr. Pop relocated to Riner with his partner, Mary, and their furry family member, Cali. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Bachelor’s degrees from North Carolina State University. Despite moving into Hokie territory, Dr. Pop remains a proud NC State alum and enjoys the friendly rivalry with local Hokie fans.

Dr. Pop’s veterinary philosophy centers around developing and maintaining animal health through transparent relationships, reliable education, and creating positive, enriching veterinary experiences for both pets and their owners. One of his greatest passions is sustainable farming and helping individuals involved in animal husbandry feel confident in their roles. He strives to live by the motto, “Help people, help animals,” and takes great pride in his ability to support clients in caring for their animals, whether as companions or working animals.

His specific areas of interest include ophthalmology, technology in medicine, data analysis, and ruminant medicine. As a veterinarian, Dr. Pop views his role as a problem solver, aiming to empower clients to be the best pet and animal owners they can be, in whatever capacity that may be.

Dr. Pop is passionate about continuing his education to bring new modalities and innovative solutions to his veterinary practice. He has expanded his skill set to include e-commerce business management, social media development, and various forms of advanced medical training. A true car enthusiast, Dr. Pop also enjoys hiking, outdoor activities, and tackling DIY projects in his spare time.
